As people wear earrings, over time the piercing holes often stretch and become elongated. With heavier earrings, this can happen faster than expected! When the piercing holes are stretched, earrings can slip down and not stay in place, which makes it difficult to wear certain types of earrings. Eventually, the bottom of the piercing holes may wear through completely and the earlobe can split or tear at which point it becomes impossible to wear earrings.
Fortunately, it is possible to repair earlobe-piercing holes that have been stretched or split. The procedure itself is performed with local anesthesia, and it is usually not necessary to go to the operating room. Sutures are placed that may be removed in one week and then in a few months, the earlobes can be re-pierced and earrings can be worn again!

Earlobe Repair Explained
Earlobe repair is a relatively simple surgery, performed while the patient is under local anesthesia to minimize risk. Once the ear is sufficiently anesthetized, Dr. Brooks will use sutures to close the earlobe hole or injury. The procedure is relatively short, often requiring less than an hour from start to finish.
Recovery and Results
After earlobe repair surgery with Dr. Brooks, you’ll likely experience some soreness for 1 or 2 days following your procedure. This pain is generally minor and manageable with over-the-counter pain medicines. You’ll need to ensure that your sutures stay as clean and dry as possible to minimize the risk of infection and excessive scarring. Dr. Brooks generally removes earlobe sutures between 10 and 14 days after surgery. Earlobe repair may be combined with other surgery, including otoplasty, to further enhance and complete your results.
