    Sclerotherapy Procedure Long Island*

Millions of women are bothered by unsightly spider veins – those small clusters of purplish, red or blue veins that commonly occur on the thigh or leg. Sclerotherapy involves injecting the spider vein with a tiny microneedle. This is a common cosmetic procedure that requires experience, skill and knowledge of the vascular system. Multiple sessions may be required.

    What is sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a treatment for the removal of spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Veins are injected with a sterile chemical sclerant, which irritates the vessel’s lining, making it become inflamed, harden, and eventually fade away completely. Blood circulation is carried out through healthy veins located deeper within the body, so the outward appearance and sometimes pain associated with the problem veins is significantly reduced.

    What are spider veins?

Spider veins, or telangiectasias, are tiny veins that constantly look dilated. Caused by weak vascular walls and inefficient circulation, spider veins cause no health problems but many people feel they look unappealing. Spider veins can sometimes resemble a spider: a large dark spot with thin veins radiating out of it, or they may appear in other patterns and variations in different places in the body. Frequently occurring in the legs, spider veins can be dark or lighter shades of blue, purple, or red.

    How is the procedure performed?

The treatment area will be sterilized, then the doctor will begin injecting the sclerosant into first the larger veins, then smaller ones, monitoring the progress of the chemical throughout the process.  For every inch of vein treated, one injection will likely be administered. Since the injection needle is so small, patients often feel little pain and do not need any anesthesia. The injection process typically is complete in just 15 to 30 minutes.

How many sclerotherapy treatments are required?

The number of sessions required depends on the depth, number, and size of the veins being treated. While some patients are happy with the results after just one treatment, others may desire further injections for the optimal effect. These follow up treatments should be spaced at least four weeks apart so that the affects of the previous treatment can be accurately evaluated before injecting more. Patients can determine the amount of treatments they may need and the cost associated with them by discussing their situation with their specialist.

    The 15 Minute Rhinoplasty
Controlled and precise injections are used to correct a low or wide nasal bridge, hide a nasal hump, raise or add to the nasal tip, correct dents, irregularities and asymmetry to restore a more balanced and attractive nose. Previous “nose jobs” that are less than satisfactory can also, at times, be dramatically improved. Creating balance and symmetry to the nose and adding the proper height to the nasal bridge will actually make the nose look smaller and thinner. The results will last 10 months to a year, or longer. Complimentary procedures include non-surgical chin augmentation, which is done in the same injectable manner. A weak or under projected chin can actually make the nose look bigger. Correcting this deficiency will actually make the nose look smaller with a more balanced profile. Injectable fillers can also be used simultaneously to fill lines, enhance the cheek areas, jaw line & hollow areas under the eyes that create dark shadows and a tired appearance.

    What is PRP?
PRP– which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma – to enhance facial shape and volume. It is a simple in-office nonsurgical procedure which uses a concentrated serum processed from your own blood to call in the natural collagen building process.

    How does it work?
A small vial of blood is taken from your arm – less than that normally taken for routine blood tests. The blood is then placed in a vial and spun in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells and plasma. The process concentrates the platelet count to about 4X normal. It is this platelet-rich plasma – often called “liquid gold” – that is then activated and injected into the skin – or applied topically in a surface regeneration action.

The Key to Success -Tricking the cells into thinking there is injury

The serum is activated by the addition of simple calcium chloride. The activated plasma serum behaves the same way the body would respond if there were an actual injury – healing platelets rush in to create a rich fibrin mesh. This fibrin mesh in turn calls out to natural healing cells, releasing growth factors* and stimulating the process of fibroblast production (the cells that create collagen) to energize and heal.
PRP has been used for years to speed joint, tendon and tissue repair and is a popular treatment for professional athletes such as football players, golfers and basketball players.
    The end result?

    • healthier appearance
    • thicker dermis (reducing wrinkles and scars)
    • improved tone
    • prolonged duration of fillers (Used with underlying fillers such as Juvderm, Restylane or Radiesse, the PRP serum prolongs and amplifies the filler correction with the need for less filler per treatment and a longer duration.)
    • **PRP is an emerging treatment for hair loss

    Earlobe Repair*

As people wear earrings, over time the piercing holes often stretch and become elongated. With heavier earrings, this can happen faster than expected! When the piercing holes are stretched, earrings can slip down and not stay in place, which makes it difficult to wear certain types of earrings. Eventually, the bottom of the piercing holes may wear through completely and the earlobe can split or tear at which point it becomes impossible to wear earrings.

Fortunately, it is possible to repair earlobe-piercing holes that have been stretched or split. The procedure itself is performed with local anesthesia, and it is usually not necessary to go to the operating room. Sutures are placed that may be removed in one week and then in a few months, the earlobes can be re-pierced and earrings can be worn again!

    Is Earlobe Repair for You?
Dr. Brooks performs earlobe repair surgery on a variety of individuals. Whether you’ve recently removed your gauges or your earlobes are showing their age after a life of earring use, earlobe repair surgery can restore your earlobes to their original appearance and enable you to wear your favorite jewelry again.
Trauma can also necessitate earlobe repair surgery. If one or both of your earlobes have been damaged or torn due to an accident or injury, Dr. Brooks may be able to repair them. During your consultation with Dr. Brooks, he’ll perform a thorough physical examination of your ears. He’ll also evaluate your goals and work with you to develop the best course of action to meet your needs.

    Earlobe Repair Explained

Earlobe repair is a relatively simple surgery, performed while the patient is under local anesthesia to minimize risk. Once the ear is sufficiently anesthetized, Dr. Brooks will use sutures to close the earlobe hole or injury. The procedure is relatively short, often requiring less than an hour from start to finish.

    Recovery and Results

After earlobe repair surgery with Dr. Brooks, you’ll likely experience some soreness for 1 or 2 days following your procedure. This pain is generally minor and manageable with over-the-counter pain medicines. You’ll need to ensure that your sutures stay as clean and dry as possible to minimize the risk of infection and excessive scarring. Dr. Brooks generally removes earlobe sutures between 10 and 14 days after surgery. Earlobe repair may be combined with other surgery, including otoplasty, to further enhance and complete your results.
