Frequently Asked Question

FAQ  Laser Hair Removal*

How does the laser work?

The laser has a beam that when applied to the skin will search for large areas of follicles and will heat the root, destroying the follicle. The lasers destroy only hair that is in its active growth phase which up to 85% of our hair is in that phase at any given time. The beam only affects the follicles and not the surrounding tissue therefore making this a safe and easy procedure.

Is it permanent hair removal?

Laser will not guarantee permanent hair removal, but if done correctly and enough (normally packages of 6-9 are required) most cases will find that the hair will not grow back or will be reduced by up to 85%, leaving it notably finer, softer and barely visible.

Is Laser safe?

Yes, laser has been approved by the FDA as a safe practice of hair removal. Laser has been proven that it does not penetrate far enough into the skin to cause any cancerous activity or cell mutation. There have been no cases of laser hair removal being linked to cancer. The beam in which comes out of the laser, only targets the hair follicles not surrounding tissue.

Can everyone have laser?

The most successful candidate for Laser hair removal is paler skins with darker hair. Olive skins can still have the procedure done if they have darker hair. Anyone that has blonde, red, white or grey hair is more unsuccessful, as laser is attracted to the pigment of the hair (darker being better). Come in for a free consultation and our Laser Technicians will advise you a proper course of action.

How many sessions will i need?

6 – 9 sessions are normally required with 6 week intervals for best results; everyone is different so results will vary from person to person.

What are the side effects?

The skin may swell or redden a little bit after the initial treatment and will go down quite quickly. It is very important to stay out of the sun or sun beds 2 – 4 weeks prior your laser and for 2-4 weeks after laser as the sun can cause pigmentation to the skin if this is ignored. It is very important to listen to the Laser Technicians during the initial consultation.

FAQ  Skin Rejuvenation Treatments*

How it works?

A beam of light is transmitted through a small, smooth, flat glass hand piece which is gently placed on the skin. During the treatment, the Laser System wave length is absorbed into the collagen fibers, where it has a heating effect on the tissue which will then encourage new collagen production.

How does it feel?

You may feel a sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band each time the Laser System is applied to the skin, although the Laser System head does have built in cooling so this will take away from any discomfort you may experience in the skin and make the treatment more pleasant.

What to expect?

Immediately following the treatment, your skin may feel quite warm and may have a stinging sensation like sunburnt skin, which will calm down over a couple of hours, this is a desired reaction as we want to successfully heat the skin to the point of having a successful effect on the collagen fibers.

What areas can I treat?

Mainly areas for skin rejuvenation are the face, neck and hands. Please Note :the desired area for treatment needs to be out of the sun for 4-6 weeks prior treatment and then continually throughout the rest of treatment.

How many treatments are recommended?

We recommend 3-6 treatments for Facial Rejuvenation and Pigmentation, there is a 2-3 week waiting period between each treatment, but you do often see improvements after each session.

FAQ  Cellulite Removal*

What Is Cellulite?

Most people will experience cellulite at some stage of their life, but not everyone has an understanding of what it is?, most people are embarrassed about cellulite and relate it to being fat which cannot be further from the truth. 90% of people, whatever shape or sizes are susceptible to having cellulite. Cellulite is dimpling that occurs underneath the top layers of skin and is caused by smaller pockets of trapped fat deposits that push against the connective tissues beneath the skin. This trapped fat does not allow the lymph system to work properly, thus a large part of cellulite is made up of toxins and fat that has not drained away.

The use of Radio Frequency, Is it Safe?

Radio frequency (RF) treatment refers to the controlled application of RF energy, a form of
electromagnetic energy, to the surface of the skin. RF energy has been used safely for many years in surgery but only recently in dermatology and cosmetic procedures. The application of RF energy causes bulk heating of the lower layers of the skin without causing any damage to the upper layer, or external surface of the skin.

How Does It Work?

Clinical research has shown that bulk heating of the connective tissue in the lower layers of the skin causes the skin to tighten. Non-surgical skin tightening is achieved by the effect of heat on the collagen fibers which causes them to lose their long fiber structure and shrink into a more compact form. This causes an increased tension within the skin which achieves the effect of tightening.

How Many Sessions Will I Need? How Long Is Each Session?

We recommended that a course of 6 sessions, with intervals of 10 days between each procedure is the minimum number of treatment sessions that is required. Following the initial course of treatment, it is recommended that skin tightening maintenance treatments be given every 3 to 6 months (and sometimes every 12 months) depending on the longevity of the patient’s response. Depending on what treatment area you are wanting done, the time will vary. On Average allow 15 – 40 minutes for the procedure. You will be advised at time of consultation with time and cost of procedure.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Areas that are mainly treated are Tummy, Thighs, Upper Arms, Face (crow’s feet, forehead, under chin) Buttocks.

When will I see results?

Most clients will see results after 3 days of having the treatment, but we do highly recommend having at least 6 treatments to maximize results and get the longevity out of the procedure, Although skin tightening can be a Add-On to any facial or body treatment if desired.

Do I Need To Take Time Off Work?

No absolutely not, the RF will only cause a little heating under the skin, it will cause a slight pink tone from the heat but that will quickly subside after the treatment.

How does Radio Frequency Assist in Cellulite Reduction?

Radio Frequency is successful in cellulite and fat reduction as it improves blood flow to the treated area which therefore promotes the breakdown of fat cells, aiding in the re-absorption and drainage of fatty deposits and retained fluids.

FAQ  Spider Veins Laser Treatment*

Both men and women are making unsightly facial and leg veins a thing of the past. Aesthetic Medical Laser can safely and effectively treat both tiny superficial face and leg veins on men and women of all skin tones. Laser treatments are being used as an alternative to or to complement sclerotherapy for small veins or spider veins. It works on the same basic principle: a light beam is pulsed onto the veins in order to seal them off, causing them to dissolve. Successful light-based treatment requires adequate heating of the veins. Several treatments are usually needed for optimal results.

What are spider veins?

Millions of women and men are bothered by unsightly spider veins on their faces and legs. Spider veins or telangiectasia’s are those small red, blue and purple blood vessels that appear most frequently on the face and thighs. These spider veins are entirely asymptomatic and only of a cosmetic concern.

What is the treatment for spider veins?

The best treatment for spider veins is laser. Laser vein removal is an easy, fast, and effective way to treat superficial veins Laser therapy has been used in the medicine for more than 30 years. The laser uses a focused beam of light. In the treatment of veins, the wavelength of light is targeted to the pigment in the blood. The laser heats up the small vein and destroys it. The laser beam is focused and does not damage the nearby skin tissue. Over a period of four to six weeks, the vein is reabsorbed by the body and disappears.

How does the laser work?

During laser therapy, light energy is delivered through a small laser hand piece to a targeted vein, in a series of brief pulses. The light energy is absorbed by the lining of the blood vessels and the blood within the blood vessels. The heat generated causes a coagulation (clotting) of the blood, which is subsequently absorbed by the body. The advanced laser treatments allow the delivery of a precise dosage of energy to each blood vessel.

How many treatments will I need?

The majority of the treated spider veins will disappear within two to three treatments. The treatments can be spaced four to six weeks apart. If new veins appear, additional treatments are required for optimum results. The treatments may be spaced every three to four week intervals. Depending on the size and number of veins, two to six treatments will be needed.
